HW#4   Ch 2: Motion Along a Straight Line

1. At t = 3 s, an object at x = 3 m is traveling at 5 m/s. At t = 6 s, it is at x = 7 m and its velocity is −2 m/s. Find the average acceleration for this interval.

2. The position of an object is related to time by x = At2 + Bt + C, where A = 6 m/s2, B = 4 m/s, and C = 2 m. Find the instantaneous velocity and acceleration as functions of time.

3. A Cheetah starting at x = 50 m accelerates from rest at a constant rate of 8.7 m/s2. a) How fast is it going after 2 s? b) How far has it gone after 2 s? c) What is its average velocity for the interval 0 ≤ t ≤ 2 s?

4. An object with an initial velocity of 5 m/s has a constant acceleration of 2 m/s2. When its speed is 15 m/s, how far has it traveled?

5. A chupacabra is walking at 0.5 m/s when it sees a goat in the distance. If it takes 10 seconds for it to reach a full speed of 7.5 m/s at constant acceleration, what distance does it cover during this time?
